The Green Sand Beach was by far my favorite Hawaiian beach but it was a long hike, which isn’t for everyone. The Black Sand Beach in Kona, Hawaii is another beach I really loved that anyone can access. It is also called Punalu’u Beach.
Black Sand Beach
Your experience at the Black Sand Beach will be similar to visiting any other beach but the contrast of the beautiful blue water and the black sand is amazing. You can bring your beach bag, throw down a towel and soak up the beautiful view and sun. Off to the right there is an area of solid lava rock, where you can walk out to and sit. This picture shows Jason taking in the view and pondering if we were just going to stay in Hawaii and never come home. Almost everyone we met in Hawaii said they came to visit and decided never to leave because it really is that amazing.
Black Sand
As you can see in this image, the ocean has turned the lava into black sand. It felt pretty much like any other sand. It wasn’t super soft, but kind of like any other beach with an amazing view and a totally different experience. Is it time to go to Hawaii?
